Though most major database vendors are touting their complete offerings for building sophisticated Websites, corporate users may be better off adopting database development solutions from a variety of suppliers.

That's the advice from analysts and systems integrators for anyone trying to build next-generation sites loaded with online transaction processing capabilities such as placing orders, checking inventory, and conducting purchases on a real-time basis.

By summer 1998 the Department of Public Health and Human Services in Montana is slated to complete the deployment of a Web application that allows welfare recipients to access and apply for public assistance using thin-client kiosks located throughout the state.

At the heart of the application are a Web database development tool by Bluestone Software, 3270 terminal emulation software by Teuber & Associates, as well as conventional data sources such as the Oracle database.
